As may be obvious from the name, ‘Big Data’ refers to very large datasets. These datasets usually require some form of querying or analysis in order to derive useful information. Topic also relates to: Data Mining, Web Analysis. Web Archiving, Knowledge Patterns
Description provided by Arshad Khan:
"Using Linked Open Data for semantic annotation of content in web repositories to improve and sustain relevance in search results. Change in termonologies and concepts of a scientific disciplines is an inevitable phenomenon and search engines struggle to cope up with changing lexicons overtime in order to produce relevant and accurate search results. I aim to utilise crowdsourced annotations to address this and related issues and investigate whether the expert crowd involvement is sustainable in long term."
Why is this area interesting and relevant to Web Science?
"It relates to Web Science because it's a phenomenon describing the very ephemeral nature of the Web and challenges everyone (particularly Web Sci) to do something about it (futuristically speaking) to lessen the effects of terms obsolescence vis-a-vis online searching in specific domain in paricular and the Web in general."
